Origins of Canyon County Detention Center
The Canyon County Detention Center has a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The facility was originally constructed in 1891 and was known as the Caldwell County Jail. The jail was a small wooden structure that could hold up to 25 prisoners. Over time, the facility underwent several expansions and renovations to meet the needs of the growing community.

Modernization of the Detention Center
In the 1980s, the county recognized the need for a more modern and efficient detention center. A new facility was constructed, and the old jail was demolished. The new facility was designed to meet the highest standards for safety, security, and inmate care. It had the capacity to hold up to 371 inmates and was equipped with the latest technology to ensure a safe and secure environment.
Expansion and Upgrades
Since its construction, the Canyon County Detention Center has undergone several expansions and upgrades. In 1995, a new wing was added to the facility to provide additional space for female inmates. In 2003, a medical unit was added to the facility to provide better medical care for inmates. In 2010, a new mental health unit was added to provide mental health care for inmates.

Today, the Canyon County Detention Center is a state-of-the-art facility that houses both male and female inmates.
